TEDx Portland: David Lucas Closes Out the Biggest Speaking Event of the Year
Maurice Lucas Foundation Founder and Executive Director, David Lucas, brought the crowd to its feet as the final speaker of the 2023 Portland TEDx talks.
He spoke from the heart, sharing how his dad, Maurice Lucas, inspired him to give back and how he now carries on his dad’s legacy through the hard work and programming excellence of the Maurice Lucas Foundation. The non-profit teaches kids life lessons through education and sport.
It was an honor for David to be selected to take the stage for 2023 Portland TEDx. During his talk, David represented thousands of non-profits across the Pacific Northwest, and around the country, who all face significant and very similar challenges. He spoke out on behalf of the non-profits we support and depend on.
David’s talk included two key points and challenges for non-profits:
- We must change the way non-profits are viewed and expected to operate
- We must change the way we think of impact and the perception of where contributions should be directed
David helped the audience see the mission-impact space in an inspiring new light and explored how to conquer the “charity conundrum” to change more lives.
“I’m proud to continue my dad’s legacy and that’s why I founded the Maurice Lucas Foundation. Our team transforms the lives of kids and that’s what gets me up in the morning to carry on this hard work.”
~ David Lucas
We will be posting David’s presentation at a later date when it becomes available!
About the Maurice Lucas Foundation
The Foundation is named in honor of the late Maurice Lucas (1952-2010), the leading scorer on the 1977 NBA champion Trail Blazers team. Besides his outstanding achievements on the court, Lucas also selflessly gave his time and energy to Portland youth. Since its formation in 2010, the Maurice Lucas Foundation has served thousands of students and families through its Academy program, basketball camps and teams.
