Maurice Lucas Foundation Welcomes Roberto Nelson as Director of Strategic Partnerships
PORTLAND, Ore. — The Maurice Lucas Foundation is pleased to welcome Roberto Nelson as its new Director of Strategic Partnerships, bringing an accomplished background in collegiate athletics, mentorship, and youth development to the Foundation’s leadership team.
A former professional basketball player and collegiate coach, Nelson joins the Maurice Lucas Foundation after serving four seasons as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Oregon State University. Throughout his coaching career, he focused on player development, recruiting, and mentoring student-athletes, helping young people succeed both on and off the court.
As Director of Strategic Partnerships, Nelson will lead the Foundation’s efforts to expand relationships with individual donors, corporate partners, sponsors, and community leaders. He will oversee donor engagement and stewardship while developing strategic partnerships that strengthen the Foundation’s ability to provide educational opportunities, academic support, and life-changing programs for the young people it serves. He will also help shape donor communications and sponsorship experiences while serving as a visible ambassador for the Foundation throughout the community.
A graduate of Oregon State University, Nelson has long been passionate about creating opportunities that empower youth to reach their full potential. That commitment aligns naturally with the mission established by Maurice Lucas—to inspire students to achieve academic success while developing the confidence, character, and leadership skills needed for lifelong success.
“Roberto’s passion for mentoring young people, combined with his ability to build meaningful relationships throughout our community, makes him an exceptional addition to our team,” said David Lucas, Executive Director of the Maurice Lucas Foundation. “As we continue to grow our impact, Roberto will play an important role in expanding our network of supporters and ensuring that more students have access to the resources and encouragement they need to thrive.”
“I’m honored to join the Maurice Lucas Foundation and continue the incredible legacy that Maurice built,” said Nelson. “Throughout my career, I’ve seen firsthand the difference that mentorship, education, and positive role models can make in a young person’s life. I’m excited to build partnerships with individuals, businesses, and community leaders who share our commitment to investing in the next generation.”
The Maurice Lucas Foundation has become a trusted resource for students throughout the Portland community by providing academic support, literacy programs, mentoring, health and wellness initiatives, and family engagement opportunities. Nelson’s leadership in strategic partnerships will help strengthen the Foundation’s capacity to grow these programs and reach even more young people in the years ahead.
