Legacy Award Recipient 2023 – Jeff Heatherington

The Maurice Lucas Foundation Legacy Award celebrates an individual who embodies commitment to our youth. The recipient is a service-oriented, community leader that has committed personal resources and business resources through the Maurice Lucas Foundation in the form of time, talent and treasure. They provided opportunities for our youth, inspired our staff and shared our mission with others. The 2023 Legacy Award is presented to a person who has given exceptional support to the Maurice Lucas Foundation in more than one way. We are honored to name Jeff Heatherington with the Legacy Award.

Jeff Heatherington

Jeff Heatherington is the founder, president, and CEO of FamilyCare Health Plans, Inc. For more than 30 years, FamilyCare Health provided patient-centered health care to Oregonians. FamilyCare Health was the first health plan in Oregon to integrate models of physical and mental health. He is recognized as a healthcare and business leader with an unwavering focus on innovative healthcare strategies, the health of the community, and the well-being of his employees. Jeff is also a committed volunteer leader. He sits on the AOF Board of Directors as well as the Boards of the Oregon Symphony, Oregon Health Council, and Oregon State Bar Disciplinary Board. In addition, he is one of the founders of the Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific-Northwest in Lebanon, Oregon.

Through the Heatherington Foundation, Jeff has underwrote the Maurice Lucas Foundation Parkrose Middle School Academy for the past four years. With this tremendous donation and belief in the purpose of the foundation, expansion into a new school was possible and the program continues to thrive. Not only does Jeff support financially, he also has given his time by being a guest speaker for the foundation’s high school students. Thank you, Jeff, for your continued support. We appreciate you.

About the Maurice Lucas Foundation

The Foundation is named in honor of the late Maurice Lucas (1952-2010), the leading scorer on the 1977 NBA champion Trail Blazers team. Besides his outstanding achievements on the court, Lucas also selflessly gave his time and energy to Portland youth. Since its formation in 2010, the Maurice Lucas Foundation has served thousands of students and families through its Academy program, basketball camps and teams.
