David Lucas recipient of the 2020 Liberty & Hope Award from Oregon League of Minority Voters

Oregon League of Minority Voters announces its 13th Annual Liberty and Hope Awards 2020
The award ceremony draws consistently from those who share the value of diversity and inclusion of all people in Oregon and honors those for their consistent commitment to the rights of all people.

“The League of Minority Voters are giving kids a voice. It is important that everyone has a seat at the table. They are there to uplift youth.”
– David Lucas, Liberty & Hope Award Recipient 2020

The League of Minority Voters was founded by a multi-racial group of Oregonians who believe that what affects one community affects all of us, and that the challenges that impact minority voters must be met with consistent advocacy from all people of conscience. Since our inception in 2007, with the help of our fellow citizens, we have expanded this vision to North Carolina, Nevada, Colorado, Virginia, Washington and a national launch in Washington D.C. later this year. We need your support to continue to expand our capacity and meet our community obligation. Donations from this fundraiser will support several programs and initiatives, including our youth empowerment speech and debate program to help develop the voices of minority students.

About the Maurice Lucas Foundation

The Foundation is named in honor of the late Maurice Lucas (1952-2010), the leading scorer on the 1977 NBA champion Trail Blazers team. Besides his outstanding achievements on the court, Lucas also selflessly gave his time and energy to Portland youth. Since its formation in 2010, the Maurice Lucas Foundation has served thousands of students and families through its Academy program, basketball camps and teams.
