Capital Fieldhouse in Salem partners with Maurice Lucas Foundation to host Free, 3-day Camp!
Capital Fieldhouse, Oregon’s #1 Sport & Event Center, hosted a free, 3-day sports camp with the Maurice Lucas Foundation-and it was a blast!
The Maurice Lucas Foundation and Capital Fieldhouse held a free, three-day, youth sports and education camp. The attendees played basketball and volleyball. Up to 150 Salem-area youth in Grades 4-10 gathered with 20 volunteer coaches. The foundation worked with several local community groups to register the participants.
Guest speakers included former NBA player Martell Webster and Salem Capitals Basketball Team Owner Jason Conrad, who told the youths about their career successes and challenges and talked about our pillars of success.
The Foundation and Capital Fieldhouse also provided free tee shirts and meals daily to all participants.
The free camp, one of two the foundation will hold in Oregon this summer, continues a tradition started decades ago by the late NBA great Maurice Lucas. During his life, Lucas hosted similar free camps attended by thousands of Oregon youths.
