19th Annual Maurice Lucas Celebrity Golf Invitational Raises Record Breaking Amount!
ALOHA, Ore. – Thank you to all who participated in the 19th Annual Maurice Lucas Celebrity Golf Invitational on July 19, 2023. The Invitational raised a record-breaking $323,000, had 285 golfers, 57 teams, 57 celebrities, two courses, one shotgun, a thrilling helicopter ball drop, nine hole-in-one prizes, and much much more.
The turnout of 285 golfers helped raise a record $323,000 The foundation will use the funds to support the free academic and athletic programs it provides to middle school through post-high students and their families in the Portland metro area.
The double shotgun tournament was played on two courses at The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club. The winning team was from Apartments Northwest LLC. The winners were Tim Gray, Chris Acosta, Latrell Wilson, Chris Kappes. The team was accompanied by celebrity Jarrett Gray who plays in the NBL for Hamm, Germany.
The winning team will receive a first-class trip to Bandon, including transportation on a private jet and a day of free play at the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort.
The 54 other participating celebrities included former Trail Blazers Brian Grant and Terry Porter, as well as Bobby Gross, Lionel Hollins and Lloyd Neil from the Trail Blazers 1977 championship team.
“This tournament is a major fundraising event for us,” said Executive Director David Lucas. “It continues a tradition started by my dad, the late Maurice Lucas, who loved this community. Thank you so much to all our sponsors, golfers and volunteers who made this year’s tournament the largest and best ever.”
Luxe Forbes Global Properties was the presenting sponsor. D&C Motor Co. was the event’s title vehicle sponsor. ilani Casino Resort was the title casino sponsor. Other presenting sponsors were, Safeway and Albertsons Foundation, Wyld CBD and Wild Roots.
The tourney organizers included many fun elements to the day to make it memorable for the participants, including a helicopter golf ball drop provided by Karl Ivanov with I&E Construction. Michael Powers performed the national anthem on his electric guitar. DJ Jupiter (aka Travis Jones) supplied the music. Pips provided fresh doughnuts, Dutch Bros. provided coffee and Karver’s Sandwich Bar provided lunch.
The tournament also featured nine hole-in-one prizes: two luxury cars from D&C Motor Co., two custom golf carts from Guild Golf Carts, two Fat Tire scooters and a $5,000 cash prize. Rick’s Custom Fencing donated a $1,000 gift card for an over-the-fence chipping contest won by Damian Telles.

About the Maurice Lucas Foundation
The Foundation is named in honor of the late Maurice Lucas (1952-2010), the leading scorer on the 1977 NBA champion Trail Blazers team. Besides his outstanding achievements on the court, Lucas also selflessly gave his time and energy to Portland youth. Since its formation in 2010, the Maurice Lucas Foundation has served thousands of students and families through its Academy program, basketball camps and teams.
