Maurice Lucas Foundation Howard Hedinger Memorial Scholarship Program
The Maurice Lucas Foundation has been helping Portland middle school students succeed in school and life through its after-school Academy Program since 2011. For those students with the desire to pursue their education after high school, the foundation has established a scholarship fund to further their success in life.
We are honored to provide the Howard Hedinger Memorial Scholarship to every graduate of our Academy who meets the eligibility requirements through high school.
Students who participate in our Academy in its entirety (three years/Grades 6-8) will be eligible for a renewable, annual scholarship of $1,250 (up to a maximum total of $5,000) if they meet the following criteria:
- Graduate from high school in four years with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA
- Enroll as a full-time student at a two- or four-year college or vocational school
- Maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA at their post-secondary school
- Volunteer in their community 20 hours or more per semester while in school
How Can You Help?
The foundation is now seeking donors to help establish this scholarship fund. We expect our first class of eligible students will graduate high school in 2019 and, with your help, scholarships will be available to all who qualify. For more information, contact Executive Director David Lucas at (503) 880-4323.
We are honored to name our scholarship after Howard Hedinger, a dear friend and supporter of the Maurice Lucas Foundation. Howard invested his life to supporting great charitable causes around the Portland metropolitan area. He was committed to helping children grow into all they were meant to be.
